The Churches are empty, the shops are full it must be Christmas. These of us who remember Christmas past know it as a season of good will and a celebration of the birth of Christ, but these days most people only worship the high altar of materialism and alcohol, even in this time of approaching austerity. That’s my joyous seasonal message over with. Lets move on to Monday nights RBC Film Club that was full of small people! They tell me there known as ‘children’ but the only problem with these tiny folk is they all have bladder problems.
I suppose if you got the have a Christmas film it might as well be The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992). Directed by Jim Henson’s son Brian, it stars Michael Cain as your main man Ebeneezer Scrooge. All the best lines are reserved for Gonzo the Great, who as Charles Dickens narrates us through this Christmas tale, and Rizzo the Rat in thier Laurel and Hardy type partnership. Even with the song and dance routines the film sticks to the original story and is passably funny. I just hope they get the lights fixed before the next season, bah humbug to you all.
