El Gringo.

If you liked Hobo With A Shotgun (2011) then your going to like El Gringo (2012) another complete load of nonsense that ticks all the Grindhouse B-Movie boxes. You know the type of thing gory violence, sex, a loud soundtrack and a difficulty telling the goodies from the baddies.  This Eduardo Rodriguez release stars Scott Adkins a British actor and martial arts expert that you may have seen in Zero Dark Thirty (2012) or possibly in various martial art/tough guy movies with the likes of Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and Jason Statham. He plays ‘The Man’ who works for Lieutenant West (Christian Slater) of the Drug Enforcement Administration, the federal agency responsible for enforcing laws and regulations governing narcotics and controlled drugs, until he realised he was risking his life against the Mexican drug cartels and getting nowhere. When he is ambushed and three of his colleagues are killed he decides that enough is enough and does a bunk with the proceeds a drug deal with the intention of retiring with his new found wealth to sup margaritas on the sunny beaches of Acapulco.

As you have come to expect nothing in the world of grindhouse ever goes to plan so “The Man’ ends up in the town of El Frontera. This is one of those towns where you can’t by a class of water for neither love nor money, not because they have not got any, they just don’t serve strangers!!! The town is run by a trigger-happy Sheriff (Erando Gonzalez) (whose not keen on dogs!) and his band of painted faced gangsters. Also involved is Flaca (Sofia Sisniega) an unlucky thief who tries to steal ‘The Mans’ bag of money with out a lot of success. Least I forget there is the love interest in the very nice form of Anna (Yvette Yates) a tough bar owner who seems to be the only one in town to oppose the sheriff and his men, that is of course until our hero arrives!

The lovely Anna threatens 'The Man'
What can I say about this movie? You either like this type of film or you don’t, so in that case give it a miss. But should you delve into realms of it’s over the top gratuitous violence you will find an enjoyable action movie with a likable leading man, a tongue in cheek story and believe it or not some very humorous moments.  Go on enjoy.
